Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children Review by Regina
Star
1) Did you like it?
It was OK – I enjoyed some parts, disliked others.

2) Why?
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children holds a lot of promise, having been adapted from one of the most popular YA series published in the last decade. I personally liked the concept and enjoyed the visuals, but from a storytelling perspective, the film kind of falls short — the characters weren’t engaging and the plot didn’t build as much tension as it should. The villain also wasn’t anything to write home about — in fact, there were moments when I wanted to shake him and tell him to be scarier, because he just wasn’t that convincing.

3) “You’d like this movie if…”

- If you enjoy Young Adult fantasy films.

- If you read the book, maybe? I can’t compare because I haven’t, but some people seem to have enjoyed it more because they have read the book (although others had the opposite experience). It’s important to note that the film deviates quite a lot from the book, though.

- If you like Tim Burton. This is directed by him.

4) “This movie made me think about…”
Traveling to Wales! The scenery was beautiful.

5) Overall rating?
2.5 stars. (Posted on 5/12/2016)
