Fast Five Review: Sing (2016)

2016 | G | Animated

In a city full of animals, Buster Moon, an optimistic koala, hosts a singing competition in a last-ditch attempt to save his beloved, but crumbling old theatre. From hundreds of auditions, five finalists are selected – a gorilla trying to break free from his dad’s life as a crime lord, an overworked mother of 25 piglets, a punk-rock porcupine, a mouse with giant ego and a shy, young elephant with a severe case of stage fright. Who will win – and how will they react when they find out Buster doesn’t actually have the prize money he promised?

1) Did you like it?

I sure did. In fact, I wouldn't have minded if it had been a little longer!

2) Why?

Sing is imaginative, fun - and a little surreal in the best possible way! It’s loaded with charming characters, the setting is vibrant, and it’s absolutely chockers with songs you know and secretly (or not-so-secretly) love that will have you itching to sing along, from everyone from Taylor Swift to The Beatles. Oh, and did I mention Gunther? He kinda steals the show...

3) You’ll enjoy this movie if…

You’re in the mood for 104 minutes of feel-good fun. Sing might technically be a kids' film, but it's got something for everyone.

4) This movie made me think about…

Sometimes, you don't want to think, you just want to turn your brain off for a while and enjoy yourself - and that's exactly what I did while watching Sing. Word has it there's a sequel due in 2020!

5) Overall rating?
