With all the different streaming platforms, subscription services and viewing options it can be hard to get access to the shows you want to watch... But this is where your local library can help - In the DVD section you can find a whole range of television programs that you can borrow... for free!
With the amazing range of content it's hard to narrow it down, but here are ten of the most popular TV series on the library shelves at the moment. With new seasons being released every month, keep an eye out for the next season of your favourite show - Or why not put a request in with your local library!


Obviously we have to start with the most talked about show of the moment, Game of Thrones. Adapted from the best-selling book series by George R.R. Martin, this medieval fantasy epic has just wrapped up it's eighth and final season. It's the depiction of two powerful families - kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and honest men - playing a deadly game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, and to sit atop the Iron Throne. Find season 1-7 in your local library and see what all the hype is about.

handmaidstaleProbably the second most talked about series of the moment is The Handmaid's Tale. Once again adapted from a novel (by Margaret Atwood), this topical and poignant work is a deeply affecting look at a future american totalitarian society that treats women as a property of the state. With outstanding writing and performances this is a not-to-be-missed series! Season 3 is currently airing, so make sure to catch up on seasons 1 & 2 from the library!

americangodsThe fantasy-drama, American Gods is based on Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name and follows the story of Shadow, an ex-convict who meets Mr. Wednesday and soon becomes embroiled in a large-scale conflict between the Old Gods and the New. The second season has just been released on DVD and will be hitting the library shelves very soon! The show has also been renewed for a third season!

bettercallsaulAfter the success of Breaking Bad comes the spin-off series, Better Call Saul. The show follows con-man turned small-time lawyer, Jimmy McGill (Saul Goodman), six years prior to the events of Breaking Bad. Season 4 was released on DVD last month and the show has been renewed for a fifth season, due to it's popularity and critical acclaim. Whether or not you've seen Breaking Bad, this show is definitely worth checking out.

oitnbBased on a memoir, Orange is the New Black follows the story of Piper Chapman and her experiences at FCI Danbury, a minimum-security federal prison. Season 6 has just been released on DVD and it has been announced that the seventh and final season will air this year (2019). With many awards, excellent writing and a cast of memorable characters, this is certainly a binge-worthy series.

outlanderLooking for some romantic time-travelling drama? Outlander is based upon author Diana Gabaldon's historical time travel book series of the same name, in which a WWII nurse in 1945 finds herself transported back to 1743 Scotland. Season 4 was released on DVD last month and the show has been renewed for a fifth and sixth season - so stay tuned!

vikingsVikings is inspired by the sagas of Viking Ragnar Lothbrok, one of the best-known legendary Norse heroes and notorious as the scourge of England and France. The upcoming sixth season will be the final season for this historical drama series, so catch up with the earlier seasons from your local library before it airs!

goodplaceAll this drama needs a little comedy and The Good Place is a... good place to start! The series focuses on Eleanor Shellstrop, who wakes up in the afterlife and is introduced by Michael to "The Good Place", a highly selective Heaven-like utopia he designed, as a reward for her righteous life. However, she realizes that she was sent there by mistake and must hide her morally imperfect behavior while trying to become a better and more ethical person. Seasons 1-3 are out now on DVD.

brooklyn99Now in it's sixth season (and renewed for a seventh), Brooklyn Nine-Nine is another comedy worth sinking your teeth into. This American Cop Comedy Sitcom revolves around Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), an immature-but-talented NYPD detective in Brooklyn's 99th Precinct, who comes into conflict with his new commanding officer, the serious and stern Captain Raymond Holt.

catastropheThe British sitcom, Catastrophe, stars Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney, who portray single people who become a couple after she unexpectedly becomes pregnant following a fling while he is visiting London on a business trip. The fourth and final season has just aired and will be released on DVD this month - find it in your local library very soon!
