Dr Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell) is a renowned cardiovascular surgeon presiding over a spotless household with his ophthalmologist wife Anna (Nicole Kidman) and their two exemplary children, 12-year-old Bob (Sunny Suljic) and 14-year-old Kim (Raffey Cassidy). Lurking at the margins of his idyllic suburban existence is Martin (Barry Keoghan), a fatherless teen who Steven has covertly taken under his wing. As Martin begins insinuating himself into the family's life in ever-more unsettling displays, the full scope of his intent becomes menacingly clear when he confronts Steven with a long-forgotten transgression that will shatter the Murphy family's domestic bliss.

Digitales Reviews

The Killing of a Sacred Deer Review by Digitales Film Club

In general, did people enjoy this film?

Everyone seemed to really enjoy this movie! Once you accept the reality that it’s created, it’s quite a straight forward film. The good points don’t necessarily come from the story line (although intriguing in and of itself), but from the obscure dialogue and interactions within a world that has been created and presented to you. There is a dark and deadpan comedy here that might not be for everyone, but certainly appealed to us!

What did they like / not like about it?

I enjoyed the deadpan and oddly-normal normality of the dialogue and characters. It continued to grow in its tension of the story and was compelling. Although I really enjoyed it, I tend to think it could have been around 20 minutes shorter in run time. - Lukas

I like that it does something different, encourages you to put aside everything you already know and to not assume that it will follow the rules. There is no need for it to be realistic, but at the same time it feels very much so; such is the reality that Lanthimos has created. It also speaks to my aesthetic and comedic taste. – Mali

It was really entertaining and funny with the right amount of suspense to carry you through to the end. This movie made me think about my own sense of humour and why I actually found this film entertaining while others I watched it with didn’t! - Shawn

Loved the premise and the absurd universe it creates, the deadpan line delivery and hilarious dialogue. Barry Keoghan was fantastic! - Liam
