Speak to anybody about this film and they’re sure to mention the incredible performance from Joaquin Phoenix. In my non-cinephile opinion, he really did elevate the film to a dark and genuine place. This film is precisely as good as audiences make it out to be, and kept my attention from the opening scene, right until the end credits. Really enjoyed this. A dark modern take on the classic comic book villain. The film was brilliantly acted and produced and had just enough fan service for fans of the Batman universe. (Posted on 7/02/2020)Star - Digitales Film Club Review by Maya

I got peer pressured into watching this. I wasn’t interested because I haven’t seen anything from the Batman franchise so an origin story held even less appeal. After watching it I had to admit I was wrong. The screenplay and production is amazing. Joaquin Phoenix is an absolute star and embodied his character to point of me watching a cast interview afterwards just to check what he’s like in real life. Frances Conroy is amazing as per usual and a great casting choice. The thrill was perfectly paced as was the level of intrigue. (Posted on 7/02/2020)Star - Digitales Film Club Review by Mali

I was somewhat hesitant going into this film, but came out of it mostly just appreciating the craftsmanship. While I don’t feel as though the themes explored were particularly new, it was certainly a great take on an origin story and a new perspective on a quite (in my opinion) overdone genre. The acting was wonderful and the cinematography sublime. (Posted on 7/02/2020)Star - Digitales Film Club Review by Abhi

Loved Joaquin Phoenix performance as Joker. Don’t expect Christopher Nolan’s magic ingredients as this film isn’t really a superhero movie rather discloses a dramatic version of the Joker´s origin. The dark cinematography shows a dirty Gotham City and how the chaos started happening with Joker on top. The music score is also spectacular with hits from the 70´s and 80´s.
