After a family tragedy, a young American couple joins some friends at a midsummer festival in a remote Swedish village. What begins as a car
After a family tragedy, a young American couple joins some friends at a midsummer festival in a remote Swedish village. What begins as a carefree summer holiday takes a sinister turn when the insular villagers invite their guests to partake in festivities that grow increasingly unnerving and viscerally disturbing. From the visionary mind of An Aster (Hereditary) comes this dread-soaked cinematic fairy tale where a world of darkness unfolds in broad daylight.

While certainly not the most innovative story, it was an oddly enjoyable watch; which is what gives this film its edge. Some story lines didn’t quite wrap up too well, some characters not quite fleshed out enough and some scenes were laced with predictability. However, having said that, it’s an immersive experience, a trip in and of itself and certainly one to watch for fans of the genre (Posted on 16/12/2019)

I watched with my jaw open in equal measures of awe and horror. The costumes and setting were mesmerising and the plot had one sick twist after another that kept me thoroughly entertained. (Posted on 16/12/2019)

A wild trip of a movie touching on themes of suicide, doomed relationships, academic integrity, and cult-like communes, Midsommar somehow turns out to be a really fun time. Through a comedic tone and a sunny daytime setting, the film sees the lighter side of folk horror, while also drawing a deeply intense emotional response from the viewer. Midsommar is not a masterwork of narrative, as there are some questionable loose-ends, but makes up for it in fun and entertainment. A delightfully wicked little tale. (Posted on 16/12/2019)
