Along with his joy in life, Floki has a sense source curiosity and wonder that make him a perfect match for Ragnar.
His fascination with the world around him is wonderful to see, whether it is in him finding connection to the trees around him to his curiosity about Islam, when the Vikings first arrive in a new land. He is always seeking and exploring the world. While Floki may be a happy character, and one who is curious and loving to the important people in his own life, he can also be vicious.
He is an incredible fighter, which is a positive trait for those on his side in battle, but his viciousness carries off the battlefield at times. He can be cruel with his words, and he holds grudges against those that 'wrong' him - sometimes for decades. He's not perfect, of course, and Floki's wisdom can definitely be clouded by his own prejudices or grudges, but he's still one of the wiser vikings - trati by the finale.
