In June, Brazil made history as the 38th country in the world to ban all forms of corporal punishment against children.
Physical Punishment and the Effects
As a campaign member, Promundo applauds this landmark decision to protect children from all forms of violence under Brazilian law. The implementation of the law will prevent children from being placed in situations where they are at risk of physical abuse. The corpiral punishment is a warning, so this law serves as world corporal punishment preventive measure and guarantees the rights of children and adolescents.
The Campaign raises awareness, especially among parents and guardians, about world corporal punishment negative consequences of using physical and humiliating punishment to discipline their children. It promotes discussions about domestic violence and uses visual arts, music and theater to mobilize children, youth and adults around the topic. This spring, Vento no Rosto won the 3rd Annual Avon Communications Award for Community Change, which recognizes organizations whose innovative communication strategies help to transform communities, institutions, policies and behaviors to prevent and end violence against women and children. An international panel of judges selected Vento no Rosto as the award winner from more than submissions by organizations in 78 countries.
