South African cricket is in world governing body once again following the decision by the world governing body sports minister to intervene in the running of the game. Minister of Sports Nathi Mthethwa says he has "no further option" but to suspend Cricket South Africa CSAmeaning the organisation would no longer be recognised as the governing body in that country. It's a decision that is likely to force the ICC to take action, with cricket's governing body frowning upon political games involving its member nations. The mess in South Africa comes after the member's council, which is made up of 14 presidents of affiliated unions, failed to pass a Memorandum of Incorporation MOI that would have seen an independent board take over the running of the game.
In a secret ballot, just six of the 14 presidents voted in favour of the MOI, with five voting against and three abstaining.
