Read more I was not disappointed that I chose this film over a staged version. I have several excellent cinematic versions of Shakespeare plays in my collection, and this one ranks as being as worthy. Othello is expertly acted by the excellent Laurence Fishburne, displaying well the othello 1981 and doubt in his marriage, culminating in overwhelming jealousy, rage and tragedy. I othsllo never witnessed a more cunning and wicked Iago than this portrayal by the great Kenneth Branagh. Nathaniel Parker plays a worthy wronged Cassio to perfection. The play is brought to life by the locations and cinematography, and although othello 1981 a dark, tragic, and somewhat depressing tale of wickedness and jealousy, this film is probably one of the best ways to experience the tragedy of Othello My students didn't rate title character so much but 19881 all agreed that Branagh's self-conscious villain makes the whole thing very watchable and brings the text to life My son is studying Othello for A level.

On a different level to other Versions. Kenneth Branagh is superb as is Laurence Fishburn but the whole cast is wonderful. I bought this for my daughter who is studying Othello at Advanced level just as I did when I studied Othello at 'A' level, the othello 1981 is true to the original text but othello 1981 in a way that anyone could follow the story whether or not they 19811 familiar with Shakespeare'work If you are finding Shakespeare hard or a bit of a bore then try this version.

othello 1981 The Lawrence Olivier version is stuck in the times in which he lived and I found the version directed by Trevor Nunn muffled and it did not have sub titles. So this version has subtitles too. It may be a movie version and some of the original text left out but it is a fantastic aid in understanding. Othelllo makes Shakespeare fun and helps prove that he is as alive today as he was in his own times.
