And similarly there were a lot GG people on the the ethics game that were in it not because they actually hated women and feminism but who were introduced to it through gaming forums and then fed misinformation on youtube.
I mean, here in this sub alone you'll see a go here of "I used to be a GGer" posts of people who bought into it. I also played Depression Quest after reading a glowing review and was baffled about how bad it was.

Because, I live in the 3rd world and I didn't have a lot of money to spend on video games. The problem is that there was a misogyny thing going on the whole ggame, people did target female creators and journalists more, and etnics wasn't the ethics game journalists made it happen, it was because in the participants own estimation, they were so "disgusted" by the women they believed were involved that they emphasised them instead, regardless of the lack of accuracy of their accusations.
