Thomas Jefferson, principle author of the Declaration of Independence , representative for Virginia to the Continental Congress, 3rd President of the United States, 1st Secretary of State under George Washington , 2nd Governor of the state of Virginia, diplomat, lawyer, philosopher and statesman, was born on this day in Thomas Jefferson was born in Shadwell, Virginia, the third of ten children. His father, Peter Jefferson, was a planter and surveyor who died when Thomas was fourteen; his mother was Jane Randolph. Jefferson attended the College of William and Mary at the age of 16 and studied mathematics, metaphysics and philosophy. CBS — Renaming a school has stirred up controversy in Waukegan. With so much attention on race across the country, the Waukegan School District opted to look at the names on two school buildings and determined the schools should be renamed.
The school at S. Lewis Ave. Some in the community felt the 44th president did not do enough for the Latinx community while in office. Madam C. Walker did a nice thing doing hair. Yet when it came time to vote, the names were narrowed down to Barack or Michelle Obama, or civil rights icon and late U. John Jetferson.
