It is related to adolescence and the teenage years into the twenties.
During this stage teenagers attempt to find themselves through various personal ventures and trying different roles in their life. Once they complete these activities confusjon find that they prefer, they start to form a single identity. If they cannot find activities that suit them or cannot find a role to fit into they become confused about their purpose and who they are.
Erikson Case Study
Link teens today face Identity versus role confusion in family life and in the many social realms that exist today. My identity was challenged my senior year of high school when it was time to pick a college and a program that I could make a career out of.
My role at the time was a high school student on the golf team. I had decent grades and test scores, but no love for any of my classes and nothing I could see myself studying for the next four years. As my search continued I doubted myself and I began to doubt my future.

I love the game of golf and I love teaching people about, I knew if I got my degree from the best PGM school in the country I could do what I loved and I could share it with other people as well by becoming a certified PGA professional. I achieved a sense of personal identity after I started at Penn State, my role confusion stage ended. Identity vs role confusion psychology said to be successful in this stage that the result is the adolescent comes out with a strong self of self worth and the ability to stay true to what they believe in. I believe I have successfully come out of this stage and as I turn 20 I believe I am transitioning into stage 6, young adulthood.
