Chinua Achebe's novel Things Fall Apart marked a significant turning point not only for literature, but the world, because the novel is an attempt to blend the conflicting identities and ideologies of Africa in the wake of colonization. The novel depicts the destructive tension that arises between the traditions of the Igbo people and white colonizers, but, perhaps contrary to the reader's expectation, it does not present either side as holding the ethical high ground. Rather, the novel suggests. Okonkwo is the personification of the Igbo cultural values and morals, he is a true warrior, hard-working man that raises a surplus of staple foods, and a holder of many Igbo cultural titles showing proof of his dedication and work. Okonkwo is also one of the Egwugwu, an elder of the village that acts as a host for a god. Things Fall Apart shows the dimension of both Igbo people and culture, while highlighting the tale of a tragic hero, Okonkwo. However, abundant cultural differences show how conflict emerges between individuals and what society expects of them. For example, in Africa women are viewed lower on the totem pole of importance even though without them the village would fall apart. Chinua Achebe is an author that was born and raised in a village of Nigeria. From growing up there, Achebe understands the culture of Africa better than. chinua achebe familySocial class and identity are two vital concepts that determine the personality and social relationship of individuals. As such, both concepts define the way people relate within their society. This research however exposed how class stratification and identity define the relations of people within the society through class structure.
