Undergraduate students with an interest in Ancient Cultures are able to major or minor in Archaeology and Ancient History. The major incorporates information from archaeology, history, classics, anthropology, art history, and landscape studies to create a broad and deep view of the ancient world. We offer units focusing on themes such as gender, empire, colonisation, myth, and archaeological method and theory as well as concentrations in specific geographic areas Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Greece, and Rome over a time period spanning some 3, years from the Bronze Age to the fall of the Roman Empire. We encourage students to explore the past through a combination of textual sources and material culture. Our students will learn how to investigate, analyse and interpret information about the past and to see how the dilemmas of the past are reflected in the issues we encounter today. By studying Ancient Cultures, students will also acquire the practical skills in written and oral communication that are necessary to complete their undergraduate degree and to compete in the job market when they graduate.
