Is "Semite" a race with a specific look to them? I personally don't think so otherwise Ethiopian Amharic speakers, Jewish Hebrew speakers, Arabs, and Arameans would all look similar. As far as I know, it's only a linguistic grouping. Not to mention afaik Sumerian is a language isolate, unrelated to Semitic languages.
However, Akkadian is a Semitic tongue.

There is actually an ancient Sumerian record in which the ancient Sumerians described themselves as dark peoples which means that there is a high possibility that they aren't Iranians, Europeans, or Indo Europeans. Some people say that they are actually Elamites or related to the Elamites themselves.
